It's been two month's since Jason Mizell pka Jam Master Jay was violently executed in his very own studio in Queens, NY. In the aftermath of JMJ's murder many theories have circulated regarding his death. Months later, and it seems that confusion is the rule, not the exception when it comes to motives and suspects. Unless the hiphop community demand answers to some serious questions, I'm afraid Jay's death may be added to a growing list of unsolved murders in the rap game. Let's be clear, this is not a rap battle, but actual murder we're discussing. Here are several theories attributed to JMJ's death.

1. Murder Inc./Ja Rule Beef.

Fact: Shortly after JMJ's murder the police sought out Jay's protege' 50 cent to offer him police protection. As stated in the NY Post, the police feared a rap war and had credible info that 50's life was in danger also. Allegedly there was tension between Murder Inc. and JMJ over the latter's' involvement with 50 cent. 50 was originally signed to JMJ records and had a working relationship with Jay. It is a well known fact that 50 and the entire Murder Inc. have a very public ongoing feud. This beef started with fisticuffs, then stabbings, and finally an attempt was made on 50's life. 50 was shot 9 times while sitting in a car and he put the blame squarely on known Murder Inc. associates in one of his songs. In a recent interview in XXL magazine 50 made it clear that he knew who was responsible for the attempt on his life and had every intention of getting even. He claimed he now had enough money to make life uncomfortable for his enemies. I'm sure they were paying close attention.

In the Monday, DEC 23, edition of the NY Daily News it was revealed that Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff, a Murder Inc. associate and Queens druglord was the original suspect in Jay's death. The Feds are investigating Supreme's role in several shootings which they suspect are related to music industry beefs. As reported in the Daily News, Supreme and his friends in the music business have been under investigation for over a year. The morning after Jay's death Ed Lover tearfully accused Irv Gotti and Ja Rule of involvement in Jay's death on Power 105.1 FM in NY. Funk Master Flex had alluded to the same charges the night before on Hot 97.1, also in NY. Suddenly, a new motive and suspect emerged effectively shifting the focus from what was turning out to be an industry shaking dilemma.

2. Drug Deal Gone Bad Theory.

Fact: According to the NY Post, JMJ engaged in an unsuccessful drug deal 8yrs ago with a childhood friend named Curtis Scoon. It is alleged that the two were ripped off and Scoon held Jay responsible. The tabloids also claimed that a man identified as Ronald "Tinard" Washington is suspected of being Scoon's lookout and tip off man. This theory has many problems, to say the least. The obvious question is if the drug deal did take place, (and that's questionable) why wait 8yrs to settle a score?! Secondly, Tinard has since been arrested for armed robbery and has yet to be charged with any crime related to Jay's death. This is a strong indicator that maybe he had nothing to do Jay's death at all. If Mr. Scoon is involved then he had to have the help of someone in the studio and by all accounts he was not on speaking terms with anyone there. This brings us to the most interesting theory.
