December 22, 1998 Rapper Mystikal Arrested No Limit soldier Michael "Mystikal" Tyler, 28, was arrested last Thursday (Dec. 17) in Louisiana on charges of marijuana and gun possession, reports the Associated Press. Police pulled the rapper over after allegedly spotting him smoking a joint, and subsequently found a 9mm gun in the car. On Monday, Mystikal denied he'd been smoking while driving, and said he thought the officers detained him because of his flashy car. "I wasn't doing anything. The joint was in the ashtray for I don't know how long." The gun, he claims, is registered to him, and that he carries it for protection. He went on to say that he felt there was a lesson to be learned in the arrest. "That was God telling me, 'Don't celebrate that hard. Cool it.'"
If convicted of the weapons charge, possession of a firearm while in possession of marijuana, the rapper could be sentenced to as much as 10 years in jail and a $10,000 fine. The rapper told reporters that following his arrest, he signed autographs while at the police station.
The explicit version of Mystikal's latest album, Ghetto Fabulous, was released Dec. 15. A toned-down version will hit shelves early next year. His last CD, Unpredictable, sold more than a million copies.
