Two Hip-Hop legends unite to bring Hip-Hop back to Nottingham's Rock City!
The team behind UK Takeover series of events: SureShot Entertainments have partnered with D&B/HipHop heavy hitters Detonate Promotions and in association with HipHop Connection magazine proudly present KRS One and Rahzel at Rock City in Nottingham on Sunday 5th June 2005.
KRS-One has proven to be one of rap's most unpredictable personalities. Setting up the Temple of HipHop in order to teach and protect HipHop Kulture: in some moments he kicks true knowledge, in others utter nonsense! But he's never boring, and as a live performer, KRS One is frequently unmatched. He brings his veritable shock-and-awe explosion of pure HipHop edutainment to Nottingham for the first time on 5th June on the stage at Nottingham's also legendary Rock City - a venue once home to HipHop in Nottingham. In it's heyday in the 80's, as well as being the home of the legendary all-dayers and Rock City breaking crew, the venue played host to such luminaries' first tours in the UK such as Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Whodini, Ultramagnetic Mc's and many more...
If you think of HipHop as having the 4 elements comprising of Graffiti art, B-Boying, Rapping and Deejaying; then you negate the fifth element - the human beatbox. Since day dot, people such as Biz Markie, Doug E Fresh, Buffy of the Fat Boys, Bobby McFerrin, and Al Jarreau have been trying to make the music with their mouth; but none have been so successful, revered and technically untouchable as Rahzel. Probably best known in the semi-mainstream world as an extended member of the Roots, he's the guy Kela, Schlomo, Petebox, Tyte and many other beatboxers look up to! Rahzel has undoubtedly mastered his craft. If you haven't seen or heard him, the Godfather of Noise is able to recreate full songs with accompaniment with his voice at the same time! He's able to sing a chorus and provide a backing beat simultaneously. He's able to invoke impressions of singers and rappers on a whim. Along with his DJ, the super sick DJ JS-1, he's able to single handedly sell out any European venue he performs in.
The event takes place at Rock City in Nottingham on Sunday 5th June 2005 from 8pm - 12am and will be hosted by the SureShot's own king of the party MistaJam and producer extraordinaire Joe Buhdha. If that's not enough already, special guests will also appear on the night providing support for the main acts!
