What do Ed Lover, Dr. Dre' and Oscar De la Hoya have in common?
It looks like HBO is reaching out to an "urban" youth crowd with a new Saturday afternoon show called "KO Nation." The show will feature boxers from around the globe and will be hosted by "the Golden Boy" Oscar De la Hoya and KKBT's morning guy, Ed Lover. The Lover Man will serve double duty as he brings his own version "let's get ready to rumble" to the middle of the ring as the announcer. NYC news guy Fran Charles will do the play-by-play. The show will feature music, dancers, and reportedly Lover has gotten his partner, Dr. Dre, a gig as the ring girl.
Sounds interesting. But out of curiosity, will Oscar be wearing his boxing trunks?
"KO Nation" will be taking it's gloves off on May 6. "I have a lot of ideas we can work with," said De La Hoya at Friday's "KO Nation" announcement. Then, turning to HBO executive producer Ross Greenburg, he added, "all you've gotta do is show me the money."
But "KO Nation's" second run is scheduled to air on June 10, which is the same day as the rematch with Trinidad. Now we all know the Golden Boy is dope, but not even he can be two places at once. We'll see what happens.
