Tupac Shakur has released more albums in death than he ever did in life. Now, there’s a bill pending in the House of Representatives that would preserve all government records related to the slain rapper, make them open to the public, and establish a Tupac Amaru Shakur Records Collection at the National Archives.
Could a Biggie bill be next? Do the National Archives have a champagne room? Will there be a westside-eastside showdown on the House floor? Will Speaker Dennis Hastert outlive Fat Joe? 11_2005_tupac.jpg
The Tupac legislation is the brainchild of Rep. Cynthia McKinney, a Democrat from Georgia who at one time suggested George W. Bush knew about the 9-11 attacks in advance. In other words, McKinney has no juice to move this bill beyond committee. While Tupac died in a loud hail of gunfire, his bill will die the silent death of congressional suffocation. All eyez on you, Tupac, but no `ayes.’ And it’s the ayes that count here. (AM)
