Atlanta Rapper Dolla Shot and Killed

After preliminary reports indicated that a man was shot at the Beverley Center in Beverley Hills, California yesterday (May 18), it was revealed hours later that the victim was Atlanta rapper Dolla.

Dolla, born Roderick Anthony Burton II, was signed to Akon's imprint Konvict Muzik.

The shooting occurred around 3:10 PM after a fight broke out. According to the LA Times, he and another rapper, D.J. Shabbazz, waited in the area after having shopped at the Westside mall. The altercation may have involved a knife, and ended with Dolla being shot in the head.

According to Sue Vannasing, the rapper's publicist, Los Angeles police detained a "person of interest" while he was attempting to board a plane of of Los Angeles International Airport.

Witnesses reported that a woman was seen firing a handgun during the altercation. It is unclear how, if at all, she is related to the man detained at the airport.

Before his death, Dolla was working on his debut solo album, A Dolla & A Dream.
