Proof's Shooter Comes Forward, Cooperates With Police Author: SoundSlam Apr. 13, 2006 - Detroit, MI
Details surrounding the shooting death of Detroit rapper Proof are beginning to unfold. Authorities have been communicating with a man identifying himself as the individual who fired the shots at and killed the D12/Shady Records rapper.
According to the Detroit Free Press, 28-year-old Mario Etheridge turned himself into the police on Wednesday afternoon after an altercation became violent between DeShaun "Proof" Holton and a bouncer at the CCC nightclub. With numerous witness observations and reports, a heated debate between the two men lead to Proof knocking the bouncer, identified as Keith Bender, to the ground before pistol-whipping and firing shots upon him.
Etheridge, a cousin of Bender's and bouncer at CCC, has allegedly asserted that he only fired at Proof after intentional gunshots struck Bender. While Proof was announced dead upon arrival at the hospital, Bender, who is a former Sgt. in the United States Army, remains in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.
Etheridge is apparently cooperating fully with the authorities. SoundSlam will continue to provide updates on this story.
