Police seek witnesses in rapper's shooting

Michigan State Police investigators said Sunday they have no leads in a weekend shooting on the Lodge Freeway that sent local rapper Obie Trice to the hospital.

They are asking for the public's help in identifying and locating the shooter.

Trice, 28, and his girlfriend were traveling north on the Lodge at 1:10 a.m. Saturday when someone in another vehicle shot through the back window of Trice's sport utility vehicle.

Though the bullet grazed his head, Trice was not seriously injured. He was treated at Providence Hospital in Southfield and released shortly afterward.

"He's doing fine. He's pretty much back to his normal self," Trice's grandmother, Delois Askew, said Sunday.

His girlfriend, who was not identified, was not injured.

State police say they don't know who's responsible for the shooting.

"We have no suspects, and we don't have any information on the other vehicle," Michigan State Police Sgt. Mario Gonzalez said Sunday. "We're hoping that someone who saw what happened can provide us with information."

Askew said Trice did not want to comment on the shooting.

"He's a shy person. He's decided he doesn't want to say anything about it," she said.
