MEDIA ADVISORY: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW From Cuba with a U.S. Political Exile
WHAT: Alexandra Castillo, Editor-in-Chief of Black Hole, while in Cuba had the opportunity to conduct an interview with U.S. political exile Nahanda Abiodun. Nahanda Abiodun was a member of the Black Acupuncture Association of North America (BAANA). Started by Dr. Mutulu Shakur, BAANA not only worked on its mission of healing addicts, it supported national liberation movements and fought for their communities' rights to social services and freedom from police brutality. In 1982, Nahanda and a number of BAANA members were accused of clandestine military acts. Leaving family and friends behind, Nahanda Abiodun went underground. She currently resides in Cuba with political asylum.

"In 1982 the government came to arrest a number of us, I wasn't there, and I lived underground up until the time I came here to Cuba which was 1990," said Nahanda Abiodun. "We were accused of violating the RICO Conspiracy Act...they said we were involved in illegal activities for personal gain... Those illegal activities..."
