Hip-hop culture is destroying society

Hip-hop may not cause criminal behavior, but it promotes it. Rebecca Hagelin was correct in pointing out that so many have adopted the destructive lifestyle choices promoted by the hip-hop genre to their own detriment.
Hip-hop, especially gangsta rap, isn't a benign musical form. It advocates a culture of decadent and callous behavior.
Hip-hop employs self-denigrating racial epithets and gratuitous profanity; glorifies rude, malicious, anti-social and criminal behavior; encourages misogynous treatment of women and reckless hedonism; normalizes irresponsible fatherhood; instills academic mediocrity as the norm; and values materialism over social intimacy.
Amazingly, many people like Michael Hait defend this corrupt culture regardless of the detrimental impact on our community. They deny that such a culture can contribute to some of the highest HIV infection, crime, incarceration, dropout, teen pregnancy, and drug and alcohol abuse rates in our society - and, consequently, one of the highest poverty rates in our society.
Adopting hip-hop culture is not the only cause of these problems. Throughout our history, there have been external forces contributing to our community's social ills. However, these external forces would have far less impact without the self-destructive behavior promoted by hip-hop.
