Globe Article: Kobe Accuser Planned To Trap Eminem

In an exclusive interview, Weatherwax tells GLOBE she never believed Faber's claim that Bryant had raped her in the posh Cordillera Lodge and Spa in Edwards, Colo., July 16, 2003. "I believe she was making this up and was trying to gain as much money as she could from this incident," says Weatherwax, 21. "If you take alot of what she's done in the past, it forms a pattern related to what she did in Kobe's case."

Faber's attorney, L. Lin Wood, contends that Weatherwax is merely seeking notoriety. "Ms. Weatherwax is obviously a troubled young lady who's been seeking her 15 minutes of fame from the Kobe Bryant case by making distorted, exaggerated and false accusations about my client, her former friend of a few months," Wood tells GLOBE. "Ms. Weatherwax was obsessed with a case that did not involve her and was none of her business."

Weatherwax says that she was ready to testify for the defense - and was even willing to take a lie detector test - before prosecutors in Eagle County, Colo., shocked the nation by dropping the charges Sept. 1 because Faber, 20, no longer wanted to participate. Bryant, 26, still apologized, saying, "Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did." Weatherwax says that Faber was totally starstruck by Bryant. "Kobe's a good-looking guy and he has a fat wallet," she explains. "But, in my opinion, at least 98 percent of her attraction to him was simply because he's famous. She's always wanted to be famous."

Weatherwax insists that Bryant wasn't Faber's only celebrity target, and that she was well-known as a party girl. The two women became good friends in August 2002 while both were attending orado in Greeley, near Denver. "My friend and I were roommates, and Katelyn would do sleepovers," recalls Weatherwax. "We did so much partying together - we were like The Three Musketeers." Between August 2002 and February 2003, Weatherwax says Faber stayed out until the wee hours meeting guys and sleeping with dozens of them. Eventually, the three young women grew apart. Weatherwax says part of the reason is that Kate Faber became too manipulative and deceitful. That behavior was evident, she claims, when her hero-worshipping friend developed a strong obsession for rap sensation Eminem. "My friend and I liked Eminem, but Katelyn took it to the extreme," Weatherwax claims. "She was obsessed with him and felt compelled to go meet him to try for sex."

The rapper was scheduled to be in Vail, Colo., for a New Year's Eve event in 2002. Faber hatched a scheme to meet and then seduce him, claims Weatherwax. "She didn't want to just get an autograph and shake his hand," Weatherwax charges. "She called a friend at his hotel, found out what room he was in and where he'd sing. There was a plan to lure him into his room, the pool or hot tub, to be in position to score," alleges Weatherwax.

"She planned on heading up there, but my friend and I thought it was a waste of time to drive six hours round-trip for a slim-to-none chance of even meeting him. "She needed us to take her, so she continually pestered us and pleaded for days. But we flat out refused."

Weatherwax claims that Faber was so obsessed with male celebrities she once bedded a guy just because he looked like singer Justin Timberlake. "They slept together right away," says Weatherwax. "And she put the used condom where she thought her boyfriend would see it and get jealous!

"I was there. We all thought it was hilarious. The condom was a sort of trophy for having sex with a Justin Timberlake look-alike."
