Singer Chris Brown has reportedly been denied entry into the United Kingdom, forcing him to postpone his tour.
Brown's Visa request was dismissed on the grounds that he was convicted of a "serious criminal offense," the Home Office told BBC News. In 2009, a California judge sentenced Brown to receive five years of probation and six months of community labor in Virginia (his home state), after he pleaded guilty to felony assault in related to a domestic violence incident involving his then-girlfriend Rihanna.
The singer was scheduled to perform three concerts in the UK, beginning on Wednesday evening in Glasgow. Brown's tour promoters told the BBC that the performances have been put on hold "due to unforeseen circumstances."
In a statement to the news agency, the Home Office said: "We reserve the right to refuse entry to the UK to anyone guilty of a serious criminal offense. Public safety is one of our primary concerns."
