BURBANK, CA. (By Penny Palmer/ Warner Bros. Records) - Brooklyn rapper Gravy is in stable condition after being shot outside of New York City hip-hop radio station, Hot 97, on Wednesday, April 26th.
The 28-year-old MC (whose real name is Jamal Woolard) was hit by one bullet after arriving at 9:30 p.m. for an interview at the Hot 97 studio in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood. Despite his injury, Woolard did not seek treatment, but went into the studio to sit for an on-air interview with prominent DJ Funkmaster Flex.
After the interview, Woolard was discovered wounded and limping by police and taken to St. Vincent's Hospital where he was treated for a single gunshot wound and listed in stable condition. No arrests have been made.
"Gravy went to do an interview with Funkmaster Flex and became the victim of a violent crime," says a Warner Bros. Records spokesperson. "He did not intend to bring adverse publicity to Hot 97, who have supported him and his records. After being shot, he sat for a two-hour interview rather than go to the hospital. We are relieved that he is okay and that his wounds were not more serious."
