3. Crying Somali Child Caption: In the 1980's civil war broke out in Somalia when warlord factions joined together to overthrow then President Siad Barre, who finally lost power in 1991. Since then the civil war consists of power struggles between warlords, ravaging the country with famine. U.S. and international troops entered Somalia to provide aid as a part of "Operation Restore Hope" in December of 1992.
