Hip-Hop enthusiasts worldwide will pause on Thursday, March 25, 1999 to log on and watch the live internet broadcast of The 1999 Online Hip-Hop Awards, the premier annual hip-hop internet event. The groundbreaking pre-millennium event will feature a cross-section of Hip-Hop culture, from webmasters to rappers, b-boys and stylewriters with presentations and performances by a lineup of "Who's Who in Hip-Hop", including the legendary Grandmaster Flash.
The purpose of The 1999 Online Hip-Hop Awards is to celebrate Hip-Hop's independence by way of the internet and the advancement of the Hip-Hop culture online. "This is the most exciting online event of the year... it's like 'The Grammys' of online Hip-Hop, states Felicia Palmer of Support Online Hip-Hop (SOHH), the premier worldwide online hip-hop community with over 15,000 members worldwide and one of the title sponsors of the awards.
The Awards kicks-off on January 25, 1999 at www.onlinehiphopawards.com, the official website where Hip-Hop enthusiasts worldwide can nominate and vote for their favorite websites in 12 award categories including Best Artist Website, Best Website Dedicated to the art of Emceeing, Best Website Dedicated to the art of DJing/Turntablism, Best Website Dedicated to the art of Graffiti, Best Website Dedicated to the art of B-Boying, Best Magazine Website and Online Hip-Hop Award of the Year. Winners will be announced on Thursday, March 25th at the 2-hour worldwide web broadcast of The 1999 Online Hip-Hop Awards live from NYC.
Hip-Hop enthusiasts who don't have internet access can also participate in the 1999 Online Hip-Hop Awards. The music retail giant Trans World Entertainment has partnered with The Awards and will promote it in Camelot, Coconuts and Strawberries music stores nationwide with window and in-store signage, giveaways and in-store appearances by Hip-Hop celebrities.
Proceeds from The Awards broadcast event will be donated to MOUSE (Making Opportunities for Upgrading Schools & Education), a NY-based non-profit organization providing volunteer manpower and technical support to wire inner-city public schools. In conjunction with The 1999 Online Hip-Hop Awards, students from MOUSE high schools will participate in a website contest which will be judged by Hip-Hop artists and a live chat/simulcast event at their school with their favorite Hip-Hop artists.
The Awards is produced by 4CONTROL, the hip new media startup that founded Support Online Hip-Hop, the web's largest Hip-Hop community with over 15,000 members worldwide. SonicNet, the web's premier music network and broadcaster of The Tibetan Freedom Concert, is co-producing the event.
